A few months ago, my parents and I went on a weekend trip just a few kilometres away from Manila. Villa Escudero was once an old plantation that was later on developed to be a resort (but I think they still have some hectares of land that is maintained as a coconut plantation upto this day).
You really get the feel of the urban life coming to Villa Escudero. The place was serene, full of trees, and we even rode Carabaos to get to the main area of the resort.
The rooms were great! It was situated above the lake and gave us a great view from the balcony.
We were even able to kayak on the lake.
But the most famous aspect of Villa Escudero is the chance to eat while your feet are submerged in the water. Firstly, the food was great. Authentic Filipino food and it's unlimited, so that's always a good thing. Secondly, it was surprisingly a cool, unique and relaxing experience.
There were a lot of people taking photos near the (man-made) waterfall but the eating area was big and as you go farther form the waterfall, you can experience a more serene vibe while you dine.
A pink-colored church turned into a museum is also found in Villa Escudero. It houses the Escudero family's most prized possessions, from antique novelties from the Chinese and Spanish era to old to history of how this place became to be.
Villa Escudero is a great weekend getaway from the busy life in the Metro - you really get the feel of the simple olden days, plus it's not too long of a drive from Manila.
